  1. James Herriot had a way of cheering on up and taking his reader with him as he went from farm to farm. Am not crazy about animals and yet he gave them such personality. I carried just one of his books with me when I got married in 1997 and went to stay at my then in-laws place. Through eight months of hell I read that book over and over again. Thankfully I left that marriage at the eight month mark and thanks to him my sanity was saved!

  2. James Herriot wrote lovely words and has always astonished me with his talent and charm. These pictures describe everything to me.

  3. I am an occupational therapist who has worked with children for decades. I could relate to some of his stories when he encountered challenging situations with other adults. Unfortunately, some of the attitudes of neglect that he observed in the owners of his animal patients, we have also observed in parents of our patients and students, as healthcare providers and teachers. By the same token, we have also been fortunate to associate with salt-of-the earth, kind people, as did Herriot in his veterinary practice.
